Visions of Sixth

Adam Alloy is proposing an AI Media Lab accelerator for the sixth floor of Frontier Tower. There is also talk of an AI Media and Marketing floor. If you have another vision, please tell us.

[ Visions ]

What the sixth floor could become.

// Draft These visions are drafts and will be updated.

[01]Vision

AI Media Lab

Use the 6th floor as an AI Media Lab that brings startups from around the world working in the AI media space to accelerate their companies at Frontier. This will be an effort with a lot of support from the tech community, tech-literate creatives, and the film world.

Startups like Storyworld.ai in Singapore are interested in being part of the lab.

We could rapidly advance the capabilities of AI media generation and build an ecosystem with the AI editing companies based in the Bay Area, like Eddie AI, Descript, and Opus Clip. This would enable companies in Frontier Tower to create cutting-edge media assets at a low cost, and get their ideas to the masses in the way they see fit.

The lab would expand to a green screen studio as a rentable tower resource. Members could then have a tremendous amount of control over the execution of their creative visions, and outside clients would flock into the tower to work.

[02]Vision

AI Media & Marketing Floor

A mix of the AI Media Lab and an accelerator for AI marketing startups — so AI media and AI marketing can begin to explore the creative reach they could get by working together.

This would also allow for affordable marketing services for the entire tower. No one would have a monopoly over this.

Additional visions

The AI media ecosystem in the Bay Area can be physically located in Frontier Tower. That physical space can be used to build bridges between AI media development and technology and physical production in San Francisco and Oakland.

There is a lot of support within different film production and local government agencies for building this kind of thing.

[ Ecosystem ]

The Bay Area builds the tools. Now it needs a place to make things.

Some of the world's leading AI video companies are a short ride from Market Street. What's missing is a shared room where those tools meet filmmakers, editors and production people. The sixth floor could be that room.

// Draft Researched October 2026. Organizations named here are part of the wider ecosystem. Naming them does not mean they are involved in or endorse this proposal.

[01] Who's already here
  • Generation. Higgsfield, Pika, Hedra, Genmo and Tavus are based in San Francisco. Luma AI is in Palo Alto. Google, headquartered in Mountain View, makes the Veo video models and the Flow filmmaking tool.
  • Editing and post. Descript and Kapwing (San Francisco). Eddie AI and OpusClip (Bay Area). These tools take raw footage to rough cuts, captions, dubs and social clips in minutes.
  • Studios and craft. Industrial Light & Magic's San Francisco studio is hiring for generative-AI pipeline work. Independent stages around the Bay offer green screen and virtual production.
  • Backers. In-person accelerators like Y Combinator and a16z speedrun back AI media and creative-tool startups right here in the city.
[02] The community is already gathering
  • Machine Cinema runs regular GenJams, screenings and salons for AI creators in SF and LA.
  • Soulscape has run AI film sprints inside Frontier Tower, and kicked off its 48-hour AI Cinema Lab here in April 2026.
  • Gray Area, BAVC Media and KQED host AI and storytelling workshops, exhibitions and labs.
  • Swissnex in San Francisco and the Locarno Film Festival brought an international AI & Film Academy to the city in April 2026.
  • Down the peninsula, Cinequest in San Jose has made AI and film part of its festival three years running. Its 2027 festival (March 9–21) has a dedicated AI Films category.
[03] What's missing

AI video tools are thriving in the Bay Area. The places to use them together are not.

  • A physical home. Los Angeles now has AI production stages and studios where filmmakers can work with these tools under one roof. San Francisco doesn't yet.
  • A standing bridge. Tech and film people meet at one-off panels and hackathons, then go their separate ways. There's no permanent place where they work side by side.
  • Affordable access. Video is one of the most compute-hungry corners of AI. Creators at local sprints often have to bring their own paid subscriptions just to take part.
  • Local backing for AI media. San Francisco and Oakland both offer film incentives, but neither has a program for AI media yet. Cities in Asia already do.
[04] How the world is moving
  • Los Angeles is building AI studios next to the old lots, pairing human performers with generative tools on small stages.
  • New York hosts one of the best-known AI film festivals, Runway's annual AI Festival.
  • Seoul funds AI-made feature films through its national film council, and K-pop agencies are experimenting with virtual artists.
  • Singapore has launched a government program that supports AI-generated content and micro-dramas.
  • China releases hundreds of thousands of micro-dramas a year, and most of them are now made with AI.
  • Hong Kong funds AI-assisted animation. Japan is backing generative-AI translation to take anime abroad.
  • India streamed a 100-episode AI-powered Mahabharat series.

The Bay Area builds many of the tools behind this shift. A lab here could be where studios from Seoul, Singapore, Tokyo and beyond come to build with them.

[05] Why Frontier Tower, why now
  • AI film events already happen in this building.
  • The tool companies are a short ride away.
  • Interest in AI filmmaking is growing on both sides: among filmmakers, and among the people building the tools.
  • A floor that pairs those tools with a green screen stage, editing bays and a creator community would fill a gap no one else in the city has filled.

[ Problems ]

What could the floor solve for your company?

Problems an AI Media Lab or marketing within the tower could help solve.

  1. 01
AI video production is slow or expensive. With AI video development a few floors away, media for launches, demos and updates gets faster and cheaper to make.
  2. 02
There's no AI media talent or infrastructure nearby. The floor brings AI media people and tools into the same building as the companies that need them.
  3. 03
AI development is cut off from physical production. The floor can build bridges between AI media development and physical production in San Francisco and Oakland.
  4. 04
There's no affordable way to prototype with AI video tools. Quick, affordable access lets your team try an idea on video before committing to it.
  5. 05
The tech and film worlds rarely meet. A shared floor gives technologists, creatives and production people a place to work side by side.
  6. 06
Marketing can't keep pace with how fast you ship. Affordable marketing within the tower helps your story keep up with your product.
